The Information Technology Management (ITM) curriculum certificate prepares graduates to bridge the gap between the problems of business and the capabilities of information technology. ITM is also known as MIS (Management Information Systems), BIS (Business Information Systems), and sometimes simply as IS (Information Systems).
The Information Technology Management (ITM) Certificate focuses on the design and development of computer-based business information systems and the role they play in organizations. It covers such topics as database design, systems analysis and design, data communications, and other concepts employed in the application of information technology to business activities.
All Majors
All undergraduate students at Georgia Tech may receive an ITM certificate by earning a grade of C or higher. The courses must be taken on a letter-grade basis. BSBA students may use one course from their BSBA concentration towards the certificate if applicable. Prerequisites are listed in parentheses and will not be waived.
MGT 2250 approved substitutions include: BMED 2400, BIOL 4401, CEE 3770, ECON 2250, ISyE 3030 and ISyE 2027, ISyE 3770, MATH 3215, MATH 3225, MATH 3670, PSYC 2020, PUBP 3120.
Core Requirements
1. MGT 2210 - Information Systems & Digital Transformation
2. One (1) course in programming
Students must take one programming course from this list: (see notes one and three) unless they intend to count one of these courses toward a named degree requirement. In that case, the student must take an additional course from the list of ITM general electives. For example, CS students for whom CS 1301 is a named degree requirement, must take an additional ITM elective instead of a programming course.
MGT 3745- Business Programming (MGT 2210 or CS 1301 or CS 1315 or CS 1331 or CS 1371)
CS 1301- Introduction to Computing
CS 1331- Introduction to Object-oriented Programming
CS 1371- Computing for Engineers
CS 1372- Program Design for Engineers (CS 1171, or CS 1371, or CS 1301)
3. One (1) course in Database Management
Students who intend to count CS 4400 to satisfy a named requirement for a degree (such as CS) must instead take one additional course from the selection of ITM general elective courses to apply toward the five-course requirement.
MGT 4058 - Database Management (MGT 2210)
CS 4400 - Introduction to Database Systems (CS 1301 or CS 1315 or CS 1371)
Electives
Select at least 2 courses.
MGT 3743 - Emerging Technologies
MGT 4050 - Business Analytics (MGT 2250)
MGT 4052 - Systems Analysis and Design (MGT 4058 or CS 4400)
MGT 4056 - Electronic Commerce
MGT 4057 - Business Process Analysis and Design (MGT 2210)
MGT 4450 - Project Management
MGT 4803 - Machine Learning for Business (MGT 4050)
MGT 4803 - Data Visualization (MGT 2250)
Notes:
- Only one course from the list of programming courses may count toward the certificate.
- Only one course from the list of database courses may count toward the certificate.
- If the student is prohibited by Institute, School, or departmental policy from “double counting” any course that may apply toward the ITM certificate, the student must substitute courses from the list of ITM General Electives to satisfy the five-course requirement for the certificate.
