Biography
Dr. Marius Florin Niculescu joined Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business in the fall of 2009 after completing his Ph.D. in Operations, Information and Technology at Stanford Graduate School of Business. His research focuses on the economics of information systems, IT security, software freemium and seeding business models, network economics, management and diffusion of IT products and services, open platform innovation, mobile telecommunications, software release and pricing, software quality management, and cloud computing. Dr. Niculescu's research has been published in Management Science, Information Systems Research, and Management Information Systems Quarterly, and presented at numerous conferences in the field and research seminars at peer universities (link to his Google Scholar profile). For his research work, Dr. Niculescu received the ISS Sandra A. Slaughter Early Career Award (2017), the AIS Best Publication of the Year Award (2013), the Best Conference Paper Award at the INFORMS Conference on Information Systems and Technology (2012). He was included in the Poets and Quants 2019 Best 40 Under 40 Professors (link) and he was also awarded the Brady Family Award for Faculty Teaching Excellence (2019), Linda and Lloyd L. Byars Award for Faculty Excellence (2018) and the Brady Family Award for Faculty Research Excellence (2013) at Scheller CoB, Georgia Tech. For his teaching performance, Dr. Niculescu received the Full-Time MBA Core Professor of the Year Award (2017, 2018, 2019), the Evening MBA Core Professor of the Year Award (2018) at Scheller CoB, and the CETL/BP America Junior Faculty Teaching Award (2015) at Georgia Tech.
Dr. Niculescu currently serves as an Associate Editor for Management Science and Senior Editor for Production and Operations Management. He also served as Associate Editor for Information Systems Research between 2016-2020. In addition, he also served as an Associate Editor for the International Conference on Information Systems and the European Conference on Information Systems, as well as an ad-hoc reviewer for the majority of the top journals in the field. Dr. Niculescu received the Management Science Distinguished Service (2012) and Meritorious Service (2015) Awards. He also received the Information Systems Research Reviewer of the Year Award (2015). He served as the president of the eBusiness section of INFORMS during 2013. Moreover, Dr. Niculescu was a co-chair of the Organizing Committee for the 2015 INFORMS Conference on Information Systems and Technology and 2016 Theory in Economics of Information Systems (TEIS) Workshop.
Dr. Niculescu is the Academic Director for the Exec Ed Technology Development Program for Bank of America and a Faculty Council Member on the Information Security and Privacy Interdisciplinary Research Institute at Georgia Tech. In the past, Dr. Niculescu was the ITM PhD coordinator, a member of the Scheller CoB Undergraduate Committee, and a Georgia Tech Grand Challenges Faculty Fellow.
