MBA Student Profile: Sophia Bromfield Wants to Lead Greener Approaches to Construction Design
Sophia Bromfield comes to sustainability from the perspective of construction design. The construction industry is particularly focused on sustainability, with its emphasis on LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accreditation. After earning a Master’s in architecture from Georgia Tech and working as a project manager in design and construction services for an architecture firm, Sophia decided to pursue an MBA at Scheller in order to combine strategy, sustainability, and construction design.
I believe that sustainability should be ingrained into our culture. Corporate clients are already demanding greener approaches.
She cites the class Business Strategies for Sustainability as pivotal in her understanding of how sustainability affects the bottom line. “I believe that sustainability should be ingrained into our culture,” Sophia says. “I think in the future, it won’t really be an option. There are going to be more requirements and mandates. Corporate clients are already demanding greener approaches.”

MBA Alumni Profile: Mikey Mulford (MBA 2007) Bringing Green Touch to “Black Gold” Production
During his second year in the MBA program, Mikey served as co-president of the Scheller College’s chapter of Net Impact, a nonprofit organization with more than 300 chapters worldwide, including more than 40,000 students and professional leaders who are focused on creating positive social and environmental change in the workplace and world. Through his involvement in Net Impact and classes at Scheller, Mikey was introduced to the myriad ways to improve resource efficiency in business.
Why not be as efficient as possible? It made logical sense to me to reduce the environmental impact of doing business.
“Why not be as efficient as possible?” he says. “It made logical sense to me to reduce the environmental impact of doing business.” He now applies this knowhow in an unlikely place: Waste Management’s oil and natural gas drilling activities. Although it’s not an industry particularly known for being green, Mulford says there are huge opportunities to reduce environmental impact and reuse raw materials.
