This past Spring semester, I had the incredible opportunity to continue working with Ready Set Push, a nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting the moms of Atlanta. Ready Set Push has a variety of impactful programs that help mothers get the resources, education, and support they need. These programs include the MAMMA program (Metro Atlanta Mother’s Milk Alliance) program, virtual Breastfeeding Education Classes, Lactation Consultations, Postpartum Support Groups (Ready Set Latch Cafés), Certified Breastfeeding Specialist Training Programs, a new Car Donation program (Drive for Babies), and other community events. This was my second semester working with Ready Set Push as an operations intern, and I continued to focus on expanding and improving the foundations of each of these programs.

Over the course of this school year, I have had the chance to watch Ready Set Push grow tremendously in both the number of programs they offer and in the impact they have within the community. As RSP expanded, my role evolved as well, and I moved beyond simply improving existing systems and became more involved in developing new initiatives, increasing outreach, and helping create stronger organizational structures that could support long-term growth.

The main project I worked on this semester was helping launch and manage a monthly newsletter. This allowed us to consistently share program updates, upcoming events, and stories that highlighted the impact RSP continues to make. Along with this, I contributed to redesigning the organization’s website to improve accessibility and communication for mothers, volunteers, and supporters. In addition, I helped support RSP’s efforts to strengthen its volunteer and leadership network. This included creating volunteer interest forms, background check processes, and onboarding materials to make the volunteer experience more organized. I also researched and drafted guidelines related to nonprofit board development to help RSP in their goal of building a stronger operational foundation. Alongside these larger projects, I continued designing infographics, promotional materials, and other written content to support community outreach.

Ready Set Push also has a big summer planned! We are preparing for an upcoming summer maternal health initiative focused on aiding rural healthcare providers. RSP plans to visit many rural doctors’ offices to better understand maternal health challenges, identify gaps in care, and evaluate common barriers impacting mothers in underserved communities. After extensive research, RSP will then contribute the resources and procedures needed to overcome these barriers. I am assisting with coordination efforts and logistics for this large initiative.

What made this whole experience especially impactful was the opportunity to work so closely with RSP’s founder and executive director, Kiana Ayers. Kiana creates an environment where I feel trusted, supported, and encouraged to contribute my own ideas. She consistently gives me the flexibility to take ownership of projects and approach challenges creatively, which allowed me to grow both professionally and personally. Through her mentorship, I gained a much deeper understanding of operations management, nonprofit leadership, and community-centered work.

This experience strengthened my passion for nonprofit work and continued to show me the impact community-focused work directly has on people’s lives. I am incredibly grateful for everything I have learned during my time with Ready Set Push this year, and I am excited to continue working with them this summer!
