This semester, I worked as a Social Media Marketing Intern at Restore More LLC, an equity-focused education consulting firm dedicated to promoting anti-racism, emotional awareness, and restorative practices in schools. Through workshops, toolkits, and school partnerships, the organization aims to create more inclusive environments for students while also fixing behavioral issues in classrooms. In my role, I supported storytelling and digital content strategy while helping amplify the organization’s mission across social media platforms.

During my internship, I contributed to a range of creative and strategic initiatives. I designed and edited content using Canva, including Instagram posts, TikToks, and Reels, transforming raw materials into visually engaging and accessible content that reached over 7,000 followers across Instagram and Facebook. I also created reusable templates for workshop promotions and recap posts, which helped maintain consistency and future intern’s content creation process. In addition, I worked on promotional graphics for key resources such as the restorative circles toolkit and anti-racist toolkit, along with visual campaigns for important holidays like Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Black History Month, and Women’s History Month.

One of my favorite parts of the internship was editing raw video content into testimonial-style reels. Adding captions not only made the content more engaging but also ensured accessibility for a wider audience. I also had the opportunity to analyze Instagram Insights to determine optimal posting times and refine our content strategy, which ultimately contributed to an increase in overall engagement. This allowed me to combine creativity with data-driven decision-making, which I found especially valuable.

A memorable moment during my internship was when I introduced a more creative approach to promoting one of the toolkits by designing a graphic that looked like a text message conversation. This format made the content feel more relatable and engaging, and my manager, Claudine, really loved the idea. It reinforced the importance of experimenting with different content styles to capture audience attention.

Beyond the technical and creative skills I developed, this experience deepened my understanding of Restore More’s mission and the broader social issues it addresses. By reviewing Claudine’s presentations and materials, I learned about restorative circles, racial bias, and implicit bias, along with strategies to address behavioral issues in schools. What stood out to me most was how restorative practices focus on long-term solutions rather than punishment. Instead of simply disciplining students, these approaches aim to address the root of behavior and create meaningful, lasting change.

Overall, this internship has influenced my future career goals. I am interested in pursuing a career in marketing technology, and this experience gave me valuable exposure to both the creative and analytical sides of marketing. It allowed me to develop skills in content creation, storytelling, and data analysis, while also showing me how marketing can be used to drive meaningful impact.
