Biography

Marco Ceccagnoli research centers on the economics and management of innovation and its relationship with a firm’s business and corporate strategy. In particular, he focuses on topics such as the analysis of strategies used to appropriate innovation rents and their relationship with market structure and business strategy; the intra and inter-industry analysis of innovation incentives, productivity, and performance; the determinants of market and non-market mediated exchanges of knowledge and technology.

His research has received international awards, such as the William W. Cooper Doctoral Dissertation Award in Management or Management Science, the European Association for Research in Industrial Economics Award, the Best Doctoral Dissertation Award (runner-up) of the Academy of Management (TIM Division), the best paper award for the Cooperative Strategy Interest Group, Strategic Management Society (SMS), and the ICIS best paper award (runner-up).

He has published articles in Management Science, Strategic Management Journal, Research Policy, Review of Economics and Statistics, International Journal of Industrial Organization, Journal of Economics and Management Strategy, Journal of Industrial Economics, IEEE Transactions in Engineering Management, MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Advances in the Study of Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Economic Growth, as well as chapters in edited book volumes for MIT Press, Kluwer Academic Publishers, and the Palgrave Encyclopedia of Strategic Management. He is a regular reviewer for Management Science, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Research Policy, among others.

He holds a PhD in Strategy, Entrepreneurship, and Technological Change from Carnegie Mellon University and a magna cum laude Laurea (M.S.) degree in economics and business from the University of Rome "La Sapienza." Between 2001 and 2005 he was an assistant professor of strategy at Insead (France). He is now a full professor with tenure at the Scheller College of Business and PhD coordinator of the Strategy & Innovation area. In April 2020 he was appointed to the Brady Family Professorhip in Management. Marco teaches strategic management and technology strategy to undergraduate, MBA (full-time, evening, and executive), and PhD students.
