Scheller Goes Inside Honeywell

On a crisp January morning, Scheller MBAs are ushered up Honeywell’s elevator and into a long, light-filled conference room where they are invited to fill up with an assortment of bagels and cream cheese, scones and coffee. New, black Honeywell bags are set at every seat. Scheller students haven’t traveled far - a mere third of a mile from the Scheller College of Business - but the warm greeting is welcomed on such a chilly morning.  
 
Daraius Patell, president of Commercial Security at Honeywell and a Georgia Tech alumnus, gives a broad strokes overview of Honeywell, a company valued at over 120 billion dollars. He isn’t wrong when he states that, “Honeywell does a lot.” There’s the aerospace, building technologies, performance materials and technologies, and safety and productivity solutions divisions. All of these divisions are linked by Honeywell Connected Enterprise (HCE) software. 

Scheller students ask questions about the integration of HCE software on a global scale, how they are going to solve the problem of bridging the gap between new and legacy systems, and what happened to Honeywell’s thermostats anyway. The answer to most of these questions is that Honeywell is in the midst of figuring it out as they continue to innovate. Honeywell isn’t shy in stating that Scheller grads could be a crucial part of the growth, building right along with them to solve complex problems at the edge of innovation.
