Business, Environment, and Society Speaker Series: Circular Economy in Plastics and the Food Industry

Speakers and moderator for May 10 BESThe Ray C. Anderson Center for Sustainable Business invites you to the next talk in the Business, Environment, and Society Speaker Series: “Circular Economy in Plastics and the Food Industry.” The event is open to the public.

The circular economy offers a revision of the “take-make-waste” business model. Businesses adapting to the new business model create products that have indefinite (or at the very least much longer) lifespans. The circular economy provides a model for businesses to work towards a more sustainable world–from design and production through refurbishment and reuse. This panel will address the circular economy as it pertains to plastics and the food industry.

Panelists will include:

  • Nell Fry (BSBA 2010) (Director of Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility, Sodexo)

  • Katherine Huded (MBA 2020) (Director of Circular Ventures, The Recycling Partnership)

  • Akissi Stokes (CEO, WUNDERgrubs)

The panel will be moderated by David Eady, industry engagement manager for the Ray C. Anderson Center for Sustainable Business.

Questions that will be addressed include the following:

  • How are the speakers’ organizations working towards creating a circular economy?

  • How do sustainability leaders make the best (though not necessarily ideal) choices now while developing innovations for the future that can be scaled?

  • How can consumers be encouraged to participate?

  • What are the challenges of recycling and related infrastructure?

  • How can policy and regulation help to create the circular economy?

  • What are the opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship?
