Most recently, Juan served as Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Salesforce, where he led Global IT, Global Business Services, Data & Analytics, and Transformation. He oversaw a team of more than 4,000 professionals and drove initiatives that improved efficiency, scalability, and margins. Under his leadership, Salesforce implemented a new enterprise data strategy, enterprise portfolio management capabilities, a modern ERP platform, a next-generation Human Capital Management system, enhanced cybersecurity and enterprise architecture, and large-scale process reengineering programs. Juan also helped establish and lead Salesforce’s AI Council, guiding the responsible adoption of AI to improve decision-making and business performance. Following his CIO tenure, he served as a CIO Advisor, partnering with executives and customers on large-scale digital, operational, and organizational transformations.
Prior to Salesforce, Juan spent more than 30 years at UPS, culminating as Chief Information and Engineering Officer and a member of the Executive Leadership Team. He led an organization of more than 25,000 technology, engineering, maintenance, and operations professionals with responsibility for global technology and engineering functions, including logistics systems, airline systems, automation, supply chain technology, customer and employee platforms, infrastructure, facilities engineering, and automotive operations. He managed an annual budget exceeding $8 billion and played a pivotal role in modernizing UPS through automation, AI, advanced analytics, and next-generation logistics capabilities that enhanced productivity, service quality, and customer experience. Juan is the inventor or co-inventor of more than 20 patents related to logistics and operational technologies.
Juan currently serves on the boards of Wabtec Corporation, AIG, and Nexcess. He previously served seven years on the board of The Hershey Company, where he chaired the Governance Committee and served on the technology subcommittee. He also serves on the advisory board of the USC School of Industrial and Systems Engineering and previously served on the advisory board of Georgia Tech’s Scheller College of Business. Juan is a part-time professor at Georgia Tech, teaching IT project management.
Juan’s leadership and innovation have been widely recognized. He is a two-time recipient of the Global ORBIE CIO of the Year Award, receiving the honor in 2018 while at UPS and again in 2024 while at Salesforce. Additional honors include the Forbes CIO Innovation Award, the Distinguished Mexican Abroad Award from the Government of Mexico, the Héctor P. García Legacy Award, and the USC Latino Alumni Visionary Award. Upon his retirement from UPS, an endowed scholarship for Hispanic students was established in his name at USC.
Juan holds a B.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering and an M.S. in Computer and Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Southern California. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, has served as an ABET program evaluator, and is a trustee of the Annie E. Casey Foundation, which focuses on improving outcomes for children and families, particularly in foster care and juvenile justice systems.
