Core Courses

MGT 6502  Leading People and Organizations (1.5 credit hours)
This course provides future organizational and executive leaders with a focused understanding the inputs and processes in predicting individual and group behavior within organizations. Students will develop a systematic understanding of why people behave the way they do in formal organizational settings and in how that knowledge can be translated into practical organizational applications. The class will examine behavioral issues in the management of individual, team, and organizational performance.

MGT 6507  Business Communications (1.5 credit hours)
This course provides future leaders and managers with the communication skills that enable them to sell themselves and their ideas. To improve verbal and written communication skills, students will develop and deliver presentations that connect with listeners and learn to write effective memos, emails, and executive briefings.

MGT 6510  Leadership Development Workshop (1.5 credit hours)
This course is designed to integrate the student's work experience into their development as a leader. It will enable students to prepare themselves to become leaders of organizations, to exercise leadership, and to embark on paths of personal leadership development.


MGT 6107  Leadership and Organizational Change (3 credit hours)
Learn challenges and methods of leading through change. Course includes change simulations. Explores change management in mature organizations. Discusses what makes an effective change agent. Examples of change include rapid growth or business turnaround.

MGT 6110  Negotiation and Conflict Resolution (3 credit hours)
Explore the process of bargaining and negotiation. Learn and develop your own conflict resolution and bargaining style. Emphasis on negotiation through exercise and role plays. Understand a spectrum of situations managers face that call for effective bargaining.

MGT 6113  Nonprofit Team Consulting Projects (3 credit hours)
Teams work on a project developed in consultation with a not-for-profit organization, and present results to organizations and boards.

MGT 6116  Gender, Race, and Ethnicity in Organizational Behavior (3 credit hours)
Examine how managers and employees become more effective leaders by understanding the role gender, race, and ethnicity play in the life of the organization. Understand the way the majority views itself and what effect this has on change within the organization. We will explore how a leader can use an understanding of these divergent styles to enhance both the individual's and group's effectiveness.

MGT 6118  Cross-Cultural Management (3 credit hours)
This course provides a broad overview of the various roles managers play within the unique international contexts. It introduces you to comparisons of significant cross-cultural differences and helps you to become familiar with ways to effectively anticipate and address cultural differences toward organizational and individual success. A particular emphasis is placed on the unique challenges associated with managing people in an international environment ranging from the psychology of cross-cultural relationships to developing strategic HR policies to attract and retain a global workforce.

MGT 6119  Leading Teams (3 credit hours)
Working in teams is an integral part of organizational life. The purpose of this course is to prepare you to succeed as an effective leader, manager, and member of teams. Accordingly, this course is designed around two objectives. First, it will introduce you to the critical theories, concepts, and frameworks that can be used to successfully identify the threats and opportunities teams face and improve team performance. Second, it will create opportunities for you to design effective teams, implement effective team processes, and practice leading and managing dynamic teams. This course promises to provide insight into what separates successful teams from the many that fail, as well as give you greater confidence in your own ability to lead and contribute to enhanced team performance.
