Anderson Center for Sustainable Business (“Center”) invites you to the next talk in the Business, Environment, and Society Speaker Series.  Join us for a talk with African-American management historian and author of, African American Management History: Insights on Gaining a Cooperative Advantage, Leon Prieto. Mr. Prieto is an Associate Professor of Management & the Director of the Center for Social Innovation & Sustainable Entrepreneurship in the College of Business at Clayton State University and will present on "Social Sustainability: A Cooperative Advantage Perspective." The event is open to the public.

This presentation will examine social sustainability from the lens of cooperative advantage, an approach rooted in Africana history and philosophy that describes the benefits that an organization possesses and accrues due to its people-centered approach to development and sustainability. This encompasses engendering a spirit of care, meaningful dialogue, and consensus-building among employees, customers, community, and the entire value chain to help reimagine a more just form of capitalism.

Dr. Leon C. Prieto is an Associate Professor of Management & the Director of the Center for Social Innovation & Sustainable Entrepreneurship in the College of Business at Clayton State University. He also serves as an Associate Research Fellow at Cambridge Centre for Social Innovation - University of Cambridge, Judge Business School. He has published articles in respected academic and practitioner journals such as Academy of Management Learning & Education, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Management History, Harvard Business Review, and MIT Sloan Review. His first book (coauthored with Dr. Simone Phipps) is entitled African American Management History: Insights on Gaining a Cooperative Advantage. His scholarship has received recognition from Thinkers50, the Academy of Management, the ThinkList (University of Bath’s Center for Business, Organisations and Society), and the United States Association for Small Business & Entrepreneurship. He holds a Ph.D. in Human Resource and Leadership Development from Louisiana State University, a Master of Liberal Arts in Extension Studies, concentration in History & Social Justice from Harvard University, an Executive Certificate in Leading Sustainable Corporations from Oxford University, an MBA from Georgia Southern University, and a BSc. in Management from Claflin University.
