Dr. Jeffrey Hales, Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business Accounting Professor and Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) Chair, says capital markets are eager for better information on sustainability performance. According to Hales, a recent set of voluntary reporting standards developed by the SASB to address sustainability issues are a milestone for capital markets.

In a recent interview, Hales, who last November rang the opening bell at NASDAQ and the London Stock Exchange to celebrate the launch of the SASB’s 77 sustainability accounting standards, and Robert Hirth, SASB co-vice chair, discuss the SASB reporting standards and how the measures may prompt a sustainability wave across industry markets and affect company operations. Hales also highlights how his own involvement with the nonprofit organization has changed the way he teaches accounting across Scheller College’s undergraduate and MBA program courses.
