2024-2025 Emerging Leaders

The Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) at Georgia Tech is an eight-month leadership development initiative designed for mid-career faculty and research professionals. Launched in 2016, the program is a collaboration among the Office of the Provost, the Office of the Executive Vice President for Research, the Institute for Leadership and Social Impact, and the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty. In 2023, the program was opened to senior and principal non-tenure track faculty and research faculty to support diverse leadership pathways.

Participants engage in a dynamic mix of leadership workshops, small-group collaboration, and personalized coaching, all aimed at building core leadership competencies. This intensive program is a significant investment in one’s owns professional development and is highly recommended by past participants.

The program is designed to equip faculty with the skills and experience needed to take on academic and research leadership roles across the Institute. By nurturing leadership potential, the ELP reflects Georgia Tech’s broader commitment to empowering individuals who will drive innovation and contribute to improving the human condition through technological and societal advancement.

As he prepares to step into his new role as dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Devesh Ranjan, a former ELP participant, describes the experience as a pivotal moment in his leadership development. “ELP gave me a much-needed opportunity to step back from the daily demands of my faculty role and focus on the broader landscape of higher education,” he shares. “It allowed me to reflect on how I can continue to grow personally and professionally, while also learning from the diverse perspectives of my cohort.” Ranjan notes that the program equipped him with the tools, frameworks, and confidence to make a meaningful impact—both at Georgia Tech and beyond. “I often say that my leadership journey was truly shaped by the ELP experience.”

The upcoming tenth cohort, running from August 2025 through Spring 2026, will begin with a retreat at the Carter Center and include ten on-campus Friday sessions.

Applications for the 2025–2026 cohort are due by Monday, May 5, 2025, at noon.
