The Georgia Tech Business Analytics Center, Scheller College of Business hosted senior executives in supply chain, logistics, and risk management from The Coca-Cola Company, Southern Company, Georgia Pacific, UPS, Delta and other leading Atlanta corporations for AI for Good: How One Concern is Using AI to Improve Disaster Preparation & Response.

Sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company, the event began with an introduction from Former Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour who shared insights from his experience in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

One Concern’s General Manager Samir Malviya and Director of Global Engagement and Senior Emergency Advisor Greg Brunelle then presented an informative and interactive session focusing on the application and potential impact of artificial intelligence in planning and responding to natural disasters such as catastrophic hurricanes, floods and earthquakes. The founders gave both an overview of their methodology along with real-life case studies where One Concern breakthrough technology has been applied—and lives have been saved.

Attendees praised the information session.

"One Concern’s work was particularly interesting because of the decision support it provides for reducing risk and mitigating effects of natural disasters. This is the kind of application I like pointing out to students as worthy of their attention—an important problem having to do with human health and safety addressed by an ambitious project that combines big data, artificial intelligence, internet of things, and geographic information systems. It’s the kind of work I want my students to aspire to."

“Opportunities like this are a big reason we see so much value in working with the BAC at Scheller.” added Rod Bates of The Coca-Cola Company. “This type of work brings together so many disciplines across so many areas of business need. Not just Business Analytics and AI - but public policy, sustainability, corporate citizenship, crisis planning emergency response, and business continuity and risk management.”
