For Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business Executive MBA (EMBA) alumnae Wendy Niebank, one of her favorite things about the program was the extensive network she has built both in Georgia and around the globe. Her and her former classmates do a great job of keeping their network alive in their class WhatsApp group, where they share great news and celebrate Scheller wins like rankings.

We recently caught up with Wendy, who is currently the VP of Strategic Initiatives & Planning at PGi, to talk about her time in the EMBA program and why she stays involved and gives back.

Why did you choose the Scheller Executive MBA program?

I had a mentor and former boss convince me to go back to get my Executive MBA. I kicked around the idea for a while and wasn’t sure that it was the right step for me at the stage I was at in my career. My boss said if I did get an MBA, I should do it at Georgia Tech. The reason I chose Scheller was a combination of return on investment, the 17-month weekend schedule, the great reputation, and the program’s expansive network in Georgia. Since I already worked globally in the tech field, I chose the Management of Technology track.

What do you love most about Scheller and how did it help you in your career?

I undervalued the motto of business and technology at the beginning. However, that connection into what’s new and upcoming plays an important role. In the program, I learned design thinking, which just came up in one of my work calls today. I thought I was just coming to get an MBA, but I learned so many new ways of thinking. Business models will change over time, but I think learning how to look for “it” and harness “it” was something we learned in the program.

Why do you invest back into Scheller?

I personally have always been philanthropic. In addition to giving to Scheller, I serve as a Georgia Tech Ambassador. I also give to my undergrad alma mater. I believe you should refill the well so that someone else can have a meaningful experience. Take what you need but you have to put it back for the next person/generation.

MBA Annual Fund gifts from MBA alumni, corporations, and friends provide essential funding to help Scheller fulfill its mission of educating the inclusive, forward-thinking leaders of tomorrow. Learn more about giving to the MBA Annual Fund.
