As part of Scheller’s Graduation 2020 Profiles series, we interviewed a few soon-to-be graduates from our undergraduate programs to learn about their backgrounds, why they chose Scheller College, and what they plan to do after Spring 2020 Commencement.

Tyler Harper
Where did you intern/co-op during school?
I interned at State Bank, Deloitte, Sapient Industries, and Garden City.
Where will you be working after graduation?
I will be working at Pacific Lake Partners.
Why did you choose Scheller College of Business?
I chose Scheller because of the great mix of technology and business that the school provides.
Who was your favorite professor (and why)?
My favorite professor was Karie-Davis Nozemack. She did an incredible job of making legal aspects of business interesting and fun
What was your favorite course (and what was the biggest insight you gained about business from it)?
My favorite course was Entrepreneurial Finance. I learned the basics of private investing, a skill that I used throughout my last internship at Garden City
As a business student in the heart of Tech Square, how do you think Scheller College embodies the intersection of business and technology?
Scheller is a great business school embedded in an engineering school. It would be impossible to separate the tech out of Georgia Tech. It bleeds over into all aspects of the classroom at Scheller.
What is your best piece of advice to an applicant hoping to get into Scheller College?
Find an industry that you think will be booming in 10 years and become the expert in it.
Who most influenced your decision to pursue business in college?
My Dad.
What activities were you involved with on or off-campus, and did your business education impact those activities in any way?
I was involved in a few startups as well as my church and fraternity. I believe that the education you receive outside the classroom is just as important for a business student as the lessons inside the classroom.
How did the Career Center assist you with your job efforts? Did you end up working or interning for one of your top choice companies?
They never specifically helped me, but I have many friends that they did help. I ended up interning at all my top choice companies and in the end got my dream job!
Did you participate in any hands-on/experiential learning opportunities? If yes, which projects/companies did you work with and how did you help them?
I did. I made an investment vehicle with a few MBA students that provided an incredible amount of learning.
What concentration did you pursue and why? How did this helped prepare you for your future?
I concentrated in Finance. I have always liked math and people, and it gave me a path to pursue both. My finance concentration has been incredibly useful in analyzing companies both for my personal portfolio and in my internships.
Fun fact about yourself:
I was stepped on by a bull during the annual “Running of the Bulls” in Spain.
Hobbies:
Producing music, investing, and gardening.
If I hadn’t gone to business school, I would be:
I would be a Computer Science major. I think that coding is interesting and I’ve have taught myself a few languages.
What are the top two items on your bucket list?
I'd like to hike to the Solvey Hut on the Matterhorn and have a record label.
In one sentence, how would you like your peers to remember you?
I'd like to be remembered as hardworking and fun.
