On this episode of The Intersection, we sat down with Travis King and Sam Medinger and to talk about their internships with big Atlanta corporations last summer. Sam spent the summer on the Leverage Finance team with SunTrust Robinson Humphry and Travis worked for Delta Airlines on the One Delta team.

Travis is a 5th year undergraduate student at the Scheller College of Business concentrating in Operations Management with a Certificate in Finance. Prior to summer, Travis co-opted at Delta Airlines for five semesters.

As a self-described “Delta brat,” Travis is focusing on the business side of the airline industry. This past summer Travis analyzed the airline’s hotel usage. He worked to identify spoilage – buying rooms that are not used, as well as demand planning, ultimately saving $40 million for the company.

During his last year at Scheller, Travis plans to dive-in to his subject interests on a deeper level. Having satisfied his requirements in his concentration, he is focusing on classes that will prepare him for life after Scheller. His biggest advice for underclassmen and those students just starting to think about College is to network; and when it comes to deciding what college to attend, don’t panic; when you know, you know.

After graduating, Travis will be working for Delta in their Finance Rotational Program. He will spend one and a half years in a divisional operating role and then another one and a half years in a corporate role.

Sam who was a 5th year undergraduate student at the Scheller College of Business concentrating in Finance, graduated in December 2018. He came to Scheller because he wanted to be at the intersection of business and technology. Sam also pursued a minor with the Denning Technology and Management Program, a unique program where students work together on interdisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive technology solutions to real-world problems sponsored by the program’s corporate affiliates.

What drew Sam to SunTrust Robinson Humphrey was the ability to bring solutions to many different clients and to gain insight into the investment-banking world. Over the summer, Sam worked in investment banking where he pitched to clients and stayed on top of their needs. All of his work culminated in a lender presentation to corporate leaders including the CFO and CEO in their lender meeting.

Sam will be returning to SunTrust Robinson Humphrey full time this summer as an investment banking analyst.
