"It's really important to sit down and say, 'Here's how much money is coming in and here are the sources, and here's how I intend to use it," says Jonathan Clarke, associate professor of finance at Georgia Tech's Scheller College of Business.

He goes on to recommend that student keep a tally of monthly expenses (room/board, registration fees, etc.) and then compare to the incoming cash flow (student loans, scholarships, paychecks, etc.)

Other saving tips include making a budget, giving yourself a paycheck, being mindful of campus amenities, banking carefully, and evaluating regular monthly expenses to help save even when funds are tight.
