Charles Mulford, Invesco chair and professor of accounting at Scheller College of Business and director of the Georgia Tech Financial Analysis Lab, discussed the U.S. economy and loom of a recession in a recent interview with CFO magazine.

While the Financial Analysis Lab discovered downward trends in its third-quarter 2018 financial data report, things have looked up so far for 2019. “It may not sound like a big increase, but the spread is widening again after shrinking for weeks,” he says. “It’s a conflicting signal.”

“I probably shouldn’t say this, but I’m going to: It’s possible now that we won’t ultimately have a recession,” he said.
