Dean Alavi Honored in 2018 ‘Women Out Front’ Ceremony

Dean Maryam Alavi of Scheller College of Business at Georgia Tech was recognized for her dedication and achievement in her industry at the 2018 Women Out Front ceremony. This honor, bestowed by the Georgia Tech women’s basketball program, celebrates women leaders who have made a significant impact in their fields and who serve as role models for young women who aspire to leadership.

Dean Maryam Alavi of Scheller College of Business at Georgia Tech was recognized for her dedication and achievement in her industry at the 2018 Women Out Front ceremony. This honor, bestowed by the Georgia Tech women’s basketball program, celebrates women leaders who have made a significant impact in their fields and who serve as role models for young women who aspire to leadership. This year, seven local women were inducted into the Women Out Front class of 2018.

She is taking great strides to make Scheller College a more diverse and inclusive school and has also placed the College on the fast track as a leading technology-oriented business school with a radiant future.

The Scheller College student leadership teams for the full-time and evening MBA programs came out to support Dean Alavi as she was honored at the January 28th Georgia Tech women's basketball halftime show.

Chris Bergman, class president of the Scheller College Full-time MBA program said, “The MBA community at the Scheller College of Business is honored to have such an inspirational leader guiding our program and demonstrating the importance of technology in today's business environment.”

With a distinguished career as a researcher, scholar, mentor, and trailblazer in the field of information technology management, Dean Alavi is now transforming Scheller College into one of the leading technology-oriented business schools in the world. She has been active in organizing, moderating, and leading initiatives to increase the representation of women and underrepresented minorities in technology and business education. Passionate about mentoring undergraduate, masters, and Ph.D. business students on academic and career matters throughout her career, Dean Alavi was named the 2017 Woman of the Year for educational institutions due to her lifelong dedication to women in STEAM roles.

Jacquelyn Schneider, president of the Evening MBA student body, noted, “Today was an extraordinary day to rally together for Dean Alavi and celebrate her many contributions to our community at Scheller College. She is taking great strides to make Scheller College a more diverse and inclusive school and has also placed the College on the fast track as a leading technology-oriented business school with a radiant future. Congratulations Dean Alavi!"
