As part of our Countdown to Commencement series, we interviewed a few soon-to-be graduates from our undergraduate and MBA programs to learn about their backgrounds, why they chose Scheller College, and what they plan to do after Fall 2018 Commencement.
Meet Annie Son:
Annie is completing her undergraduate Business Administration degree with a concentration in Marketing. The Marietta native can usually be caught pruning her small flower garden or painting and drawing.
Why did you choose Scheller College of Business?
At Scheller, I knew I’d gain the ability to forge my own career path.
Who was your favorite professor and why?
That’s hard as there were so many great professors! My favorite is, perhaps, Dong Liu, for always keeping the class environment positive, encouraging growth, and staying goofy.
What was your favorite course and what was the biggest insight you gained about business from it?
Intro to Marketing; the class helped me gain a comprehensive understanding and critical analysis of marketing.
As a business student in the heart of Tech Square, how do you think Scheller College embodies the intersection of business and technology?
Scheller emphasizes technical acumen no matter what concentration you’re in.
What is your best piece advice to an applicant hoping to get into Scheller College?
Just be thoughtful.
What is the biggest myth about Scheller College?
Business school (at least at Scheller) is not a joke. It is much less about memorizing facts than it is about thinking critically about business situations.
Who most influenced your decision to pursue business in college?
My sister, who also attended Scheller, and graduated two years before me.
What activities were you involved with on or off campus, and did your business education impact those activities in any way?
I enjoy supporting creative communities, on and off campus. Usually that involves building something entirely from scratch. Scheller has helped me be comfortable with taking a challenge and being thoughtful throughout the entire planning, execution, and reflection process.
Did you end up working or interning for one of your top choice companies?
Yes; my dream company to work for was Mailchimp, which is where I had my most recent internship and am still working during my last semester.
Did you participate in any hands-on/experiential learning opportunities? If yes, which projects/companies did you work with and how did you help them?
Yes; I was in a joint design and marketing course where my team ideated a product for a real company and pitched its marketing position.
Did you travel abroad during your time at Scheller? What were some of your key takeaways from the experience?
Yes; I went on the Argentina program that also included travel to Uruguay and Brazil. I had the most wonderful time meeting driven and passionate people from different cultures. It’s important to know your surrounding communities.

I sell flowers on weekends!
Where did you intern/co-op and when? What projects did you work on during your internship?
I’ve interned at Mailchimp (May 2018-present); the Coca-Cola Company (Dec 2017-May 2018); General Electric (May-Aug 2017); and others, primarily working on project management projects within product marketing, global marketing, and partnerships.

If I hadn’t gone to business school, I would be in art school or pursuing a public policy career.
What are the top two items on your bucket list?
To own a flower shop and gallery space.
In one sentence, how would you like your peers to remember you?
I want my peers to remember me as person strong enough to not only hold her own, but as one who supported others, too.
