Michael Thompson
Class of 2026, MS-QCF
Originally from California, Michael Thompson is a graduating Master’s student in Quantitative and Computational Finance and Computer Science & Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. His time at Tech has been defined not only by academic rigor, but by growth—learning to navigate challenge, embrace uncertainty, and find clarity at the intersection of technology and finance.
Along the way, Michael built meaningful relationships and a deeper sense of purpose, exploring his curiosity through a platform focused on artificial intelligence and the systems that power it. Through this work, he connected with a broader community and discovered the value of sharing ideas and learning beyond the classroom.
As he reflects on his journey, Michael carries forward a mindset shaped by resilience, curiosity, and continuous learning. After graduation, he will begin his career in Atlanta as a Quantitative Analyst, bringing with him not just technical skills, but a perspective grounded in growth and possibility.
Joe Evans is a Monroe County, Georgia native and a Georgia Tech graduate, where he earned a B.S. in Industrial Management with Highest Honor. Over a distinguished four-decade career, he led and grew multiple financial institutions, including Bank Corporation of Georgia, Flag Financial Corporation, and State Bank and Trust, guiding expansion, mergers, and crisis-era acquisitions of 12 failed banks. He most recently served as Lead Independent Director of Cadence Bank until its 2026 acquisition by Huntington Bancshares.
A dedicated Georgia Tech leader, Evans has chaired the Alumni Association, the Scheller College Advisory Board, and the Georgia Tech Foundation. He and his wife, Raena, celebrate 50 years of marriage in 2026 and have a growing family of children, grandchildren, and a great-grandson.

I’m a Ramblin’ Wreck from Georgia Tech, and a hell of an engineer
A helluva, helluva, helluva, helluva, hell of an engineer.
Like all the jolly good fellows, I drink my whiskey clear.
I’m a Ramblin’ Wreck from Georgia Tech, and a hell of an engineer.
Oh! If I had a daughter, sir, I’d dress her in white and gold,
And put her on the campus to cheer the brave and bold.
But if I had a son, sir, I’ll tell you what he’d do—
He would yell “To Hell with Georgia” like his daddy used to do.
Oh! I wish I had a barrel of rum and sugar three thousand pounds,
A college bell to put it in and a clapper to stir it ’round.
I’d drink to all good fellows who come from far and near.
I’m a Ramblin’, Gamblin’, hell of an engineer.
The College also wishes to thank the dozens of student, faculty, alumni and staff volunteers who helped make today’s ceremony possible. Your contributions are absolutely vital, and your hard work and devotion to Georgia Tech are much appreciated.
Congratulations!
As you boldly change the world, know that the skills you’ve gained at Georgia Tech and the connections and community of the Alumni Association will last a lifetime. We stand in proud support of you, and we invite you to stand next to each other in proud support of Georgia Tech. No matter where you go, your network of more than 200,000 alumni is with you.
Gather at local events and online at Georgia Tech Connect. Grow with career development opportunities and our alumni travel program. Give back through volunteer leadership and pave the way for future Yellow Jackets and the legacy of the Institute with Roll Call, Georgia Tech’s Fund for Excellence.
Go Forth and Be Bold!
