Bill Denman is Chief, Superfund Restoration and Sustainability Section, for the Environmental Protection Administration's southeast region headquartered in Atlanta. Established in 1980, the Superfund program conducts and oversees environmental cleanups of highly polluted sites that pose a threat to human health and the environment. Bill and his team work with land developers, lenders and others to rehabilitate those sites and return them to productive use. Bill’s presentation will discuss the Superfund cleanup process and how the Superfund program considers sustainable practices and site redevelopment in the EPA’s remedy decision process. Bill will discuss several cases where application of these practices has allowed communities to reclaim and revitalize land that would otherwise have remained unusable health and environmental hazards.
