Biography

Heather Dicks joined the EXCEL team in August 2017 as a Career Development Advisor. She has spent 22 years supporting people labeled with disabilities in areas of independent living, education, transition, advocacy, therapeutic recreation, Christian camping, adapted recreation, and employment.

Her career spans three different states (Massachusetts, Maine, and Georgia), but she has called Georgia home since 2006. Heather served in the role of Transition Coordinator at the State of Maine's post-secondary pilot program for students with developmental disabilities, called STRIVE U. She has presented at the Kennedy Center's VSA Intersections Arts and Special Education Conference on alternative methods of teaching music for youth with special needs. Heather has also taught classes for the Atlanta Area Council of Boy Scouts of America on adapting program activities for scouts with special needs to be able to have an achievement path in advancing to the Eagle award.

Her passion is helping people achieve their maximum level of independence, and she has enjoyed including assistive technology in this process.
