Hometown: Monroe, Georgia
Describe yourself in 15 words or less:
A man grateful for life who is working to better himself and those around him.
Who most influenced your decision to pursue your B.S. in Business Administration?
My father, William Scott Garner Sr. most influenced me.
What was your favorite business course and why?
Marketing Management, MGT 3300, with Dr. Michael Lowewas my favorite. He was hands down the most passionate professor I had the honor of learning from while at Georgia Tech. His classroom activities and antics kept students engaged every class session, and his vast practical knowledge of marketing in the business world was very evident in his lessons.
What advice would you give to an incoming undergraduate student?
Take advantage of every opportunity afforded to you. Georgia Tech is a very cleverly crafted system designed to produce the best business professionals and leaders in the world, so take every opportunity they provide to better yourself. I promise you will thank yourself for the hard work later.
What activities were you involved with on or off campus, and did your business education impact those activities in any way?
I spent three years working for the Georgia Tech football team in the recruiting and scouting department, helping to evaluate and recruit high school and transfer portal athletes. I would say the greatest impact my business education has had on this role is the communication skills I’ve gained and how to effectively collaborate in a fast-paced team environment.
What is something unexpected you learned about Scheller College during your time as a student?
I love blown glass and learning that the chandeliers in Scheller are Chihuly glass was truly special to me.
What’s been your favorite memory so far at Scheller?
I once took Entrepreneurship, MGT 4670, with Professor Mariano Maluf. In this course, I had the chance to create a product and business for the class, including an MVP prototype. I spent a whole weekend with my father building this crude wooden version of the product I had designed in CAD.
It was so satisfying to have my idea come to fruition by the end of the process, and the entire class experience was very rewarding. I later pursued the idea briefly and built several more advanced prototypes, which are still in development to this day. The idea was a universal lockbox for all forms of personal mobility devices (bikes, skateboards, scooters, etc.) that had a built-in lock activated by your Buzzcard.
What is the biggest lesson you gained from your Scheller B.S. in Business Administration?
With proper mentors and preparation, you are capable of far more than you think you are.
What will you be doing to celebrate your graduation?
I want to win a college football playoff game.
Who would you like to thank most for your success?
My mother and father have worked extremely hard to not just give me the financial or physical tools to succeed, but also to raise a man who has the mental fortitude and resilience to tackle hard things head-on and the morals to do it with character.
