Hometown: Nairobi, Kenya
What is something on your bucket list?
I really want to see the Northern Lights.
What is a favorite place you’ve traveled to and why?
My favorite place to visit will always be back home to Kenya because you can visit the beach, mountains, and wildlife reserves all in one country, plus I get to see my family.
What is a favorite family tradition?
We rotate through and everyone gets to pick whether we do movie night or game night on the weekend. The kids love it when they pick what we do, and it’s fun seeing how their choices change as they grow.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
The first time I led a team, I had an employee 20 years older than me tell me that I was one of the best managers he ever worked with. I do my best to learn and grow as a leader. It was rewarding to know that my team appreciated those efforts.
What is the hardest thing you’ve ever done?
Teach high school science! Teachers do not get paid enough; it is emotionally and mentally draining work. Thank the teachers in your life.
Your latest book recommendation:
“Drive” by Daniel Pink is an all-time favorite of mine.
Your life story in one sentence:
No matter how long our paths crossed, I hope I enriched your journey in some way.
Your favorite Atlanta restaurant:
Gunshow
Your favorite comfort food or family recipe:
My mom's chapati (a popular flatbread in Kenya) is heaven on a plate.
What is your favorite Scheller tradition or extracurricular?
My favorite tradition that the EMBA program has is international residencies. Learning about business practices in South Africa and Panama was eye-opening and expanded my education far beyond what I would have learned had the same lessons been taught in the classroom.
Why did you choose to come to Scheller?
I wanted to meet other like-minded leaders in Atlanta and Scheller has one of the best EMBA programs in the country. The EMBA schedule is perfect for busy professionals. The program staff I met during the interview process (shout out to Malvenia Dasher!) were great representatives of the program and indicative of the warmth I would receive from students and faculty in the program.
