Scheller Undergraduate Meredith Wolpert Wins Love Family Foundation Scholarship

Annually, The Love Family Foundation Scholarship is awarded to a member of the graduating class with the most outstanding scholastic record.

It is one of the highest awards Georgia Tech Institute gives to a graduating senior who has the “most outstanding scholastic record of all members of the class.” Winners were selected by the Associate/Assistant Deans of all six colleges.

This year, the $10,000 scholarship provided by the Gay and Erskine Love Foundation was co-awarded to Scheller College’s own Meredith Wolpert, BSBA 2019, and Angel (Alex) Cabrera, College of Computing. Students in all six of Georgia Tech’s colleges are considered for this prestigious award.

While Meredith excelled in the classroom, she was extremely active on campus and in the community throughout her time here at Georgia Tech. She was the first female President of the Scheller College of Business Ambassadors, Project Manager for Dean Scholarship Events, and held numerous positions for the Society of Women in Business including Vice President of Project Management, Membership Project Manager, and Corporate and Alumni Relations Project Manager.

Meredith is a Boston native and is finishing up her business administration degree with a concentration in Information Technology Management and a Certificate in Business Analytics. She describes herself as a “vibrant, ambitious go-getter who loves a good podcast and long chats over coffee.” She was recently selected from students nationwide as one of Poets & Quants 2019 "Best and Brightest Undergraduate Business Students.” She is a Dean’s Scholar and recipient of the Bergmark Family Merit Scholarship.

She held summer internships at Red Bull in Atlanta as a Regional Marketing and Sales Intern and at PwC in Chicago and Amsterdam as a Management Consulting intern. Her internship at PwC was very exclusive as she was one of 15 interns out of 4000 applicants for their International Program. In fact, she was named to Way Up's Top 100 Interns of the Year 2018 - awarded for quality of overall performance, work ethic, impact, and personal/professional growth as determined by a panel of industry expert judges and public votes. Following graduation she will head to Chicago to start in her role at LinkedIn as an Associate in their Business Leadership Program.

Additionally she participated in the Institute’s Oxford Study Abroad Program during the summer of 2016. “This 12-week European experience challenged me to grow into an incredibly independent, resourceful, and adaptive individual,” states Meredith. “After traveling to a different city every few days, I became comfortable with immersing myself in different cultures and I learned the value of keeping an open mind.”

She notes one of her biggest learnings while at Scheller College, “There’s rarely one right answer to solve complex business issues. Instead, I’ve learned to develop an appetite for taking risks and appreciate the beauty in uncertainty. I also gained insight into how important it is to not only study the successes of a company, but also their shortcomings. Failure is life’s greatest teacher, and the takeaways from it are invaluable.”

Meredith’s biggest takeaway from business school is “business is all about relationships. Whether you’re in investment banking or a creative agency, at the end of the day, we’re all just working with people. So, interpersonal skills such as communication, teamwork, and relationship building are key to becoming a well-rounded, successful business professional. While it’s pivotal to make these strong relationships, it’s even more important to maintain them. I’ve learned that one of your most important assets is your network, but it’s even more crucial to know how to grow and leverage it while staying genuine!”

“Meredith couldn’t be more deserving of this prestigious award,” says Craig Womack, Associate Dean and Senior Director of Undergraduate Programs. “From the moment we met her at the Dean’s Scholarships interviews in February 2015, throughout her four years on campus, she has been a superstar – in the classroom, on campus and in the community.”

She will receive the award at the annual Student Honors Celebration on April 16.
