In an August 20th U.S. News & World Report article titled "Ways to Save Money in College," Scheller professor Jonathan Clarke weighs in on how college students can achieve stronger financial success. He notes the importance of building a budget to help stretch a paycheck

"It's really important to sit down and say, 'Here's how much money is coming in and here are the sources, and here's how I intend to use it," says Jonathan Clarke, associate professor of finance at Georgia Tech's Scheller College of Business.

He goes on to recommend that student keep a tally of monthly expenses (room/board, registration fees, etc.) and then compare to the incoming cash flow (student loans, scholarships, paychecks, etc.)

Other saving tips include making a budget, giving yourself a paycheck, being mindful of campus amenities, banking carefully, and evaluating regular monthly expenses to help save even when funds are tight.
