Scheller College Appoints Three Chairs and Professors

Scheller College of Business at Georgia Tech has appointed three endowed chairs and professorships in its teaching faculty for the 2018–2019 academic year: Saby Mitra, Peter Thompson, and D.J. Wu. Reflecting on the recognition of her esteemed colleagues, Dean Maryam Alavi notes, “I am delighted to announce our new and returning chair and professorship appointments to Saby, Peter, and D.J. Their exemplary impact on research, academics, and service to Scheller College is paramount. We are extremely grateful to our benefactors, whose generous commitments to Scheller College allow us to attract and retain stellar faculty. Finally, I send my appreciation to the members of the Endowed Chair/Professorship Committee, whose deliberations help ensure the good stewardship of the endowments underlying these chairs and professorships.”

Saby Mitra

Saby Mitra, senior associate dean of Programs and Professor of Information Technology Management, was appointed to the Thomas R. Williams-Wells Fargo Professorship. Saby joined Scheller College of Business in 1993 and was promoted to full professor in 2012. Saby’s research focuses on information security and electronic commerce, with published articles in top-tier information systems, marketing, and operations management journals. Saby served Scheller College as faculty director of the Executive MBA program from 2007–2013.

Peter Thompson

Peter Thompson, senior associate dean of Faculty and Research and Professor of Strategy & Innovation, was appointed to the Hal and John Smith Chair in Small Business and Entrepreneurship. Peter joined Scheller College of Business as a full professor in 2014. His research focuses on entrepreneurship, endogenous growth theory, and learning by doing, with published articles in top-tier strategy and specialized economics journals. He currently serves as a receiving editor for Research Policy, associate editor for Management Science and editorial board member for Strategic Management Journal.

 DJ Wu

D.J. Wu, Professor of Information Technology Management, was appointed to the Ernest Scheller, Jr. Chair in Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Commercialization. D.J. joined Scheller College of Business in 2003 and was promoted to full professor in 2014. D.J.is the area coordinator for Information Technology Management. His research focuses on digital innovation, commercialization, transformation and disruption, with published articles in top-tier information systems and operations management journals. He serves as senior editor for Information Systems Research, associate editor for Management Science, and senior editor for Production and Operations Management.
