MBA Student Podcast: Veterans in MBA

Hear directly from some of the veterans at Scheller why they think others who have served in the military may be the perfect candidates to apply for an MBA from Georgia Tech.

The latest episode of the podcast represents a message to veterans. And as far as Jamie Foss is concerned, the core of that message is clear.

“Scheller loves veterans,” says Foss, a former Marine, current second-year MBA student at Scheller, and future employee at Miami-based Ultimate Software.

You may not think that you’re the right fit to pursue an MBA, but you have an immense amount of experience - Lyndy Axon, Air Force vet and President of the Veterans Club at Scheller

Foss was joined by Samuel Jerome, a first-year and Army veteran, as well as Lyndy Axon, a second-year student and Air Force vet, to tell their stories about serving their country, and then leveraging that experience into an MBA education at Georgia Tech’s Scheller College of Business.

Each guest provided clear examples of skills learned in the military -- decision making, leadership, customer service -- that can help a person succeed in the business world. For Axon, it’s proof that many veterans out there could be extremely successful in an MBA environment. “You may not think that you’re the right fit to pursue an MBA, but you have an immense amount of experience,” she said.

And all three agreed that you don’t need a technical background to thrive at Scheller. Jerome spoke of his recent experience in Scheller’s core classes, where professors personalize the curriculum to build the entire cohort up from the introduction to mastery. “You really don’t have to be an expert,” he said.
