Countdown to Commencement: Malcolm Danmola

As part of our Countdown to Commencement series, we interviewed a few soon-to-be graduates from our undergraduate and MBA programs to learn about their backgrounds, why they chose Scheller College, and what they plan to do after Fall 2018 Commencement.

Meet Malcolm Danmola:

Malcolm is from Albany, Georgia, and is completing his undergraduate Business Administration degree with a concentration in Information Technology Management. Not only has Michael visited 10 countries in seven years, he prides himself on being a “total foodie,” who enjoys trying new cuisines and learning about other cultures.

After graduation, he will be working at Apple as a program/project manager for their retail and online store team in Cupertino, California. Malcolm says he chose Scheller College of Business because of the mere fact that it incorporates two of the main drivers for aspiring entrepreneurs in the 21st century: business and technology.

Describe yourself in 15 words or less:

I am an enthusiastic individual who loves to motivate others to achieve their dreams. 

Where did you intern/co-op and when? (Include multiples if applicable) What projects did you work on during your internship?

While at Scheller, I interned at Chevron Corporation in Houston and in San Ramon, California, during Summer 2017 and Summer 2018 semesters, respectively. During one of my projects, I was tasked with co-leading the change management initiative pertaining to the deployment of Microsoft’s new cloud infrastructure, which allowed over 2,000 Chevron employees to easily transition to Windows 10, Office 365, Exchange, and OneDrive in various “agile” phases. I was able to use the database and project management knowledge I acquired at Scheller to query a back-end database that significantly improved the overall end-user experience for the employees and allowed for an increase in efficiency for the project as a whole.

“If I hadn’t gone to business school, I would be…”

If I hadn’t gone to business school, I would have majored in Computer Science with the hopes of becoming a software engineer. 

What are the top two items on your bucket list?

To travel to every continent and to skydive!

In one sentence, how would you like your peers to remember you?

I would like my peers to remember me as someone who always encouraged them to achieve their dreams by utilizing all the resources that are given to them no matter what adversity they may face in life.

Who was your favorite professor (and why)?

My favorite professor was Toschia Hogan; I took her Human Resource Management class. I appreciated her teaching style the most because of her ability to incorporate her administrative corporate background from her previous company and relate it to why certain aspects of organizational behavior and human resources are relevant to maintaining a profitable business. Her lectures were very relatable, due to the discussion-based nature of the class, which is something that was much needed because it helped us to think analytically and outside of our norms.

As a business student in the heart of Tech Square, how do you think Scheller College embodies the intersection of business and technology?

I thoroughly believe that Scheller College differentiates itself from other business schools because of its perfect location inside an institute of technology. It embodies its unique position at the intersection of business and technology by allowing each student to obtain the vital technical skills needed to have a solid understanding of information technology in the corporate world, no matter what industry one chooses. With Scheller being in Tech Square, students have access to innovation labs, startup companies, and Fortune 100 corporations that all have a strong relationship with the school. Scheller students are not only well-versed in business strategy, but also technological innovation.

What is the biggest myth about Scheller College?

The biggest myth about Scheller College of Business was that I would not be able to get a job with companies that weren’t consulting/finance due to the fact that they’re only looking for specific non-business majors. I quickly realized that was a huge misconception because of my ability to obtain offers from BMW, Delta Air Lines, Chevron, Apple, Johnson & Johnson, and Dell during my tenure as a student here.

How did the extracurricular offerings at Scheller College help you during your time here? Is there anything Scheller didn’t offer that you feel would’ve helped you succeed?

Honestly, Scheller offered me everything and more. Even though I didn’t utilize everything that was offered to me, I at least knew that I had a copious amount of resources to choose from.
