Scheller College Draws Leading Sustainability Operations Researchers to Event

With support from the Ray C. Anderson Center for Sustainable Business, Operations Management Associate Professor Atalay Atasu recently held a workshop that convened 45 of the leading sustainability operations researchers from the world at Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business.

The participants, all cutting-edge researchers, met to initiate an early-career research network, discuss important research questions in the domain of sustainable operations management, and foster future research collaborations.

These participants have been collaborating on a forthcoming book edited by Atasu – titled Environmentally Responsible Supply Chains – that not only brings together innovative research, but also appeals to practitioners. “I wanted to publish a high-impact book that translates the most recent academic thinking into practice” says Atasu.

The workshop was made possible with funding from the Ray C. Anderson Center for Sustainable Business’ Academic Venture Fund. “We created the Fund to invest in the research excellence of our faculty members and maximize their impact on the field, our students, and on practice,” says Beril Toktay, facuty director of the Center and professor of operations management.

Participant Gilvan "Gil" C. Souza, associate professor of operations and decision technologies at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, says, “I thought the quality of the presentations was excellent.  I also thought the participant list was outstanding – great researchers!”

Following the positive feedback by participants, Atasu and Toktay plan to grow this high-impact network initiative and make it one of the flagship activities of the Ray C. Anderson Center for Sustainable Business.
