Scheller College of Business Students Named among Best and Brightest Undergraduate Business Majors

Elana Burton and Nicholas Cardamone have been selected for Poets & Quants’ list of the 50 “best and brightest” undergraduate business students across the country. This national honor recognizes decorated business majors from the Class of 2016 who reflect the best of their schools in terms of academic performance, extracurricular leadership, personal character and innate potential.

“Elana and Nicholas have distinguished themselves at Georgia Tech and we are very proud of their accomplishments,” said Maryam Alavi, dean of the Scheller College of Business. “They exemplify the caliber of our undergraduate students at Scheller College and we look forward to their continued growth and success.”

Burton graduated this fall with a concentration in operations management and knew she wanted to major in business after participating in a week-long competition to design the best business plan in high school. “The business classrooms give you innumerable opportunities to collaborate and compete in teams,” explained Burton.

Burton won both a President’s Scholarship and the Alice Neal Dean’s Scholarship from the Scheller College, and was a member of the elite Steven A. Denning Technology and Management Program (T&M), earning a minor in Engineering and Business. Burton will start her career at Bain & Company as an associate consultant. Between graduation and her employment date, she plans to backpack through Central and South America.

Cardamone graduated this fall with an information technology management concentration and a certificate in marketing. He is the recipient of a President’s Scholarship and a Provost’s Scholarship and participated as a varsity athlete (cheerleading) for four years. His interest in business began at an early age when he fell in love with real estate. He described his dream job: “To be the principal owner of an international real estate conglomerate or software firm.”

Cardamone found that the Scheller College prepared him well for the business world, “Majoring in business at Georgia Tech allowed me to engage daily with classmates and professors from around the globe. Additionally, business classes at Scheller College are built around group projects and collaboration, which sets us up for success post-graduation.” Cardamone will move to Ann Arbor, Michigan to start his career with Google. He will work on their small and midsize business sales team as an account strategist.

"This is a great honor, and I'm delighted that Elana and Nicholas were recognized by Poets & Quants as ‘best and brightest’ for their numerous academic and extra-curricular achievements at Georgia Tech and the Scheller College of Business,” said Craig Womack, assistant dean and director of undergraduate programs for the Scheller College of Business.
