Dr. Marie Thursby Named AAAS Fellow

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) has named Dr. Marie Thursby of Scheller College as a 2015 Fellow. AAAS is the world’s largest general scientific society, and election as a Fellow is an honor bestowed upon AAAS members by his or her peers. This honor began in 1874 and is acknowledged with a certificate and rosette that will be presented during the AAAS Fellows Forum at the Association’s Annual Meeting on February 13, 2016.

Dr. Thursby is being honored for research contributions to the role universities play in innovation and the development of pioneering graduate programs that prepare students for careers commercializing new technologies. She is the founding director of the internationally acclaimed program, Technological Innovation: Generating Economic Results (TI:GER®)--a unique educational collaboration between Georgia Tech and Emory. TI:GER teams PhD students in engineering and science with MBA and JD students in an experiential curriculum focused on the intersection of technical, legal and business issues at the heart of innovation. “This honor highlights the success Marie and everyone in TI:GER have had in making experiential learning part of the Scheller College DNA,” says Scheller College Dean, Maryam Alavi.
