Dr. Jeffrey Hales Appointed to Advisory Council for FASB

The Board of Trustees of the Financial Accounting Foundation (FAF) has appointed Dr. Jeffrey Hales to the Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council (FASAC). This senior advisory council is responsible for advising the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) on strategic issues, project priorities and other matters that affect accounting standard setting. The FASB establishes financial accounting and reporting standards for public companies in the United States.

Hales, an associate professor of accounting, was selected from a cross-section of FASB’s stakeholders, including users, preparers, practitioners, academics, association members and other parties interested in the integrity of full and complete financial reporting and disclosures. Hales will serve a one-year term beginning January 1, 2016, and is eligible to be reappointed for three additional one-year terms.

“This prestigious appointment highlights Jeff’s innovative scholarship in the accounting field. Corporate leaders, scholars and students alike are beneficiaries of his exemplary research and teaching efforts,” said Maryam Alavi, dean of the Scheller College of Business.

Hales has been a member of the Scheller College faculty since 2008 and holds the Catherine and Edwin A. Wahlen Jr. Professorship. His research interests include accounting standard setting and regulation, individual decision making and behavioral finance. His research has appeared in The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Review of Accounting Studies, and the Journal of Financial Economics. He serves on the editorial boards of The Accounting Review, Contemporary Accounting Research, and Accounting Organizations and Society.
