Interdisciplinary Team Wins Scheller’s BizTech Case Challenge

Team Spectrum won the BizTech Case Challenge at Scheller College of Business, qualifying them to represent Georgia Tech in the annual case Competition on Management Information Systems (CoMIS) at the University of Minnesota in early April.

BizTech is an interdisciplinary case competition concerning business and information technology. The competition is hosted by Scheller but is open to all Georgia Tech undergrads.

The winning Team Spectrum, which received $300, includes business administration major Stacia Burke, electrical engineering major Colin Andrews, and chemical and biomolecular engineering major Briana Richardson. Both Burke and Andrews are participants in the Denning Technology & Management Program, which cross-trains students to possess both technological and managerial know-how.

In the initial round of BizTech, participating teams submitted two-page briefs of their analysis and proposal. Six teams were selected for the final round, where they made presentations in front of a panel of judges from Bank of America and KPMG.

"It was a good competition," says Randheer Gehlot of Bank of America. "We had five teams all equally strong. I also liked the selection of case – a real life situation that an organization goes through after big merger/acquisition."

This semester's BizTech Case Challenge was organized and run by a team of business students: Ali Brown, Meredith Crawley, Giulian Garruba, Lauren Liou, and Sabeel Siddiqi, along with information technology management faculty member Michael Smith.
