Profile: Career Services Helped Executive MBA Student Mark Stewart Advance

For Mark Stewart, the career services offered by Georgia Tech College of Management proved instrumental in his landing a new job as director of investments for Batson-Cook Development Company during his studies in the Executive MBA in Management of Technology (EMBA-MOT) program.

Stewart, who's due to graduate in December 2011, credits his adviser in the Jones MBA Career Center with "helping me connect some dots in my career and know to best present myself moving forward."

After developing his personal pitch (a positioning statement defining him professionally) through six modules of career workshop training, he was ready for the networking event that led to his current leadership role.

Today Stewart heads up investments for a subsidiary of a Japanese conglomerate where he negotiates and places capital into large commercial real estate projects that are the next wave of post great-recession developments.

Stewart, who'd previously been chief operating officer of Pellerin & Salomon Real Estate Services, decided to pursue his EMBA-MOT degree to grow his career at a time when commercial real estate was going bust.

"For me, the appealing part of Tech's program was the chance to work on my weakness, which had been technology," he says. "Real estate has traditionally been very bricks and mortar, but my education has afforded me the opportunity to introduce more technology and innovation into the industry."
