GMAT/GRE Waiver Request Process

Evening MBA candidates interested in requesting a GMAT/GRE waiver must meet at least one of the following three criteria. If criteria is met, candidates must submit a statement describing their academic and professional quantitative experience to formally request the GMAT/GRE waiver.

Criteria Options:

Georgia Tech Undergrad
+ GPA
Work Experience
+ GPA
Advanced Degree / Professional Certification
Earned an undergraduate degree from Tech, two years of post-graduate work experience
and
3.2+ GPA
Five years of post-graduate work experience
and
3.2+ GPA
Masters or doctoral degree and two years of work experience
or
CPA, CFA, etc. 

Meeting one of the criteria above allows the candidate to request a waiver, but it does not guarantee that the waiver will be granted. Full request process details and FAQs are outlined below.

Waiver Request Process

  • Candidates must formally request a GMAT/GRE waiver when submitting the MBA application
  • Using the optional essay portion of the MBA application, interested candidates must request the waiver and write a brief essay highlighting quantitative experience in their professional and academic history (300-500 words).
  • If applicable, candidates should also submit evidence of professional certification via email.
  • Admissions Committee reviews complete application and grants or denies the waiver request within two weeks.

Please note:

  • Candidates may not request a waiver if they have requested that existing scores be sent to Georgia Tech.
  • Candidates receiving a GMAT/GRE Waiver are not eligible for fellowship consideration.

How do I submit my GMAT/GRE Waiver Request?
Using the optional essay portion of the MBA application, interested candidates must request the waiver and write a brief essay highlighting quantitative experience in their professional and academic history (300-500 words) You must submit a complete application for admission to the Evening MBA Program. 
What qualifies as quantitative experience and why is it important?
Experience with financial, statistical, and data analysis, budgeting, and financial modeling. The MBA curriculum, particularly the MBA core courses, tends to be quantitative in nature. The admissions committee looks for evidence that applicants have taken sufficient quantitative academic courses and/or had the opportunity to develop strong quantitative skills through their professional experience that would equip them to succeed academically in the MBA program.
To meet the work experience requirements of the waiver request, will you accept less than five years of work experience?
No – candidates are required to have five or more years of work experience.
Do internships count as work experience?
No – candidates are required to have five or more years of full-time work experience.
I recently completed my undergraduate degree, but I’ve been working for 10+ years. Does my work experience qualify?
Yes, your work experience qualifies you to submit a GMAT/GRE Waiver Request.
To meet the GPA requirements, will you accept less than a 3.2 GPA?
No – your cumulative GPA must be a 3.2 or higher. If you attended a college or university outside of the United States, your equivalent GPA must be a 3.2 or higher.
To meet the professional certification requirements of the waiver request, which certifications will you consider?
In our pilot program, the following certifications were considered: CPA, CFA, Financial Series Exams, and Professional Engineer License. This is not an exhaustive list, nor does it guarantee that the waiver will be granted.
If I meet one or more of the requirements, am I guaranteed that the waiver will be granted?
No. Meeting one or more of the requirements for the waiver request does not guarantee the waiver will be granted nor does it guarantee admission.
When will I receive a notification that my GMAT/GRE waiver request has been granted? Is there a separate notification about program acceptance?
We will notify you if your waiver request was granted within two weeks of application submission via email. The admissions decision is a separate notification.
If I do not receive the waiver, will I have time to take the test and be considered?
This depends on our application deadlines – we encourage you to take an appropriate amount of time to study and submit the best application possible. If you cannot take exam by the deadline, we can move your application to the next application round.
If I was granted a waiver from another college or program, would it apply to this one?
No. You will need to apply for our waiver.
What if I have already submitted my GMAT/GRE scores to Georgia Tech?
Candidates may not request a waiver if they have requested that existing scores be sent to Georgia Tech.
If I switch my application from the Executive MBA to the Evening MBA, will my waiver be transferred?
The waiver is not automatically transferred, but we are happy to consider the information you submitted with your initial application.
Can I receive merit-based funding if I have been granted a GMAT/GRE Waiver?
No. To be considered for fellowship or other merit-based funding, candidates must submit GMAT/GRE scores.
