GMAT/GRE Waiver Process

Applying for Spring 2021

Any applicant that can demonstrate strong quantitative skills through both their academic and professional work experience is welcome to apply for the GMAT/GRE waiver. Prospective students do not have to meet certain criteria in order to be eligible to apply for the waiver. Below are the average statistics for applicants with an approved waiver:

Approved Waiver Statistics

  • 60% of applicants who pursued the waiver were approved
  • 3.37 GPA
    • Nearly 90% of approved waivers held a STEM or business-related degree
  • 6 years of work experience
    • The Admissions Committee strongly recommends that applicants have at least two years of work experience when applying for the waiver

How do I apply for the waiver?

  1. Using the 3rd optional essay on the application, submit a 300-500 word essay formally requesting the waiver and highlighting your quantitative experience in both your professional and academic history
  2. Complete and submit the rest of the Evening MBA application in its entirety

When will I receive notification of a decision regarding my waiver request?

  • You will receive a decision regarding your waiver request within two weeks of submitting your completed Evening MBA application
  • If you are granted the waiver, then we will move forward in reviewing your application
  • If you are not granted the waiver, then we will inform you whether or not a test score would help enhance your candidacy. For those applicants that are encouraged to take the exam, your application will be valid up to one year as you prepare for the GMAT or GRE. Applicants with at least five years of work experience are allow to take the Executive Assessment.

Please note:

  • Candidates may not request a waiver if they have requested that existing scores be sent to Georgia Tech
  • Candidates receiving a GMAT/GRE waiver are not eligible for scholarship consideration
Applying for Fall 2021 or later

Beginning of the Fall 2021 admissions cycle, we will be moving to a test-optional admissions process. Applicants will no longer need to apply for the waiver and can submit the application without a test score.

How do I indicate that I am applying without a test score?

  • To apply without a test score, you must submit an essay in the designated space within the online application.
  • In this essay, you should include information about your quantitative experience relating to your academic and professional history. You may also highlight any other aspects of your candidacy that you think are relevant to the evaluation of your application without a test score.

Please note:

  • Candidates who have requested that existing scores be sent to Georgia Tech may not apply as test-optional. Official test scores that have been received by Georgia Tech at the request of the candidate will be considered with their application.
  • Candidates applying without a test score are eligible for scholarship consideration. However, preference is given to candidates who provide a test score with their application.
