Technological Innovation: Generating Economic Results

New TI:GER Teams Wrapping Up a Successful First Year

The new incoming class of TI:GER students did outstanding work this year on their commercialization plans with several teams already achieving major recognition. Team Lunula Health won the Advanced Track of the Ideas to Serve (I2S) competition held by the Institute for Leadership and Entrepreneurship at Scheller College on April. The team, consisting of engineering student Robert Manino, in collaboration with MBA students Prattek Mittal and Anna McDermott, won the first prize of $2,500 based on their smart phone app for hemoglobin level monitoring. Team TCPoly Making Waves
Second year TI:GER Team TCPoly finished as semifinalists at the Rice Business Plan Competition held in Houston, Texas on April 6 - 8, 2017. This group also was one of 15 finalists (from 300 submissions) at the Tech Square Labs Quarterly Competition on April 10, 2017. In February Team TCPoly’s Matt Smith, Ph.D. competed at the Venture Lab Pitch Competition (February 7, 2017).

 

2nd Year TI:GER Teams in the News
Team Weav3D, represented by Chris Oberste, Ph.D., Lewis Motion and Akshay Saxena (MBAs), Daniel Ledesma and Nathan North (JDs) took first place at TiECon Atlanta on April 29, 2017. At the New Venture Competition held in Portland, Oregon, on April 13 - 15, 2017, Oberste and Motion were semifinalists. Oberste also competed at the Venture Lab Pitch Competition (February 7, 2017). At the Georgia Bowl Competition held February 3-4, 2017 Team Weav3D’s Oberste and Saxena took second place.

 

Where Are They Now?
In 2016, Jake Edens (CEO) was awarded Small Business Person of the Year by the Atlanta Business Chronicle and REscour was recognized by Venture Atlanta as one of the “Top 5 Startups to Watch in 2016”. Also, REscour’s newly launched enterprise product has been adopted by three of the five largest CRE companies in the world (all multi-billion dollar corporations). In 2015, REscour was able to raise $2.8M in seed funding from several west coast venture capital firms including Social Capital, Launch Fund and Spider Capital Partners. REscour is an ATDC Signature company as well as a Tech Square Labs company. They also won Best B2B Company at the Launch Festival (the world’s largest startup event).
