TI:GER® Collaborates with LMU in Munich

Six TIGER® students traveled to Germany to collaborate with Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU)’s Innovation Center.  The students are working in two teams with German PhD students in management and physics for projects with two German based startups. The seminar included visits to BMW headquarters, Earlybird Ventures, and a special patent review session at the European Patent Office (EPO).

TI:GER Welcomes Charles Morell

Charles Morell is TI:GER’s latest addition to its impressive Industry Advisory Board. Charles is Senior Director in Global Nonwovens Research and Engineering at Kimberly-Clark.  He leads the innovation, development, and commercialization of materials and processes used to support Kimberly-Clark’s branded personal health and hygiene products.

Foundation Capital Chooses TI:GER MBA for Young Entrepreneur Program

Congratulations to Nate Frank, TI:GER MBA 2014, who was selected as one of the 10 university representatives  in Foundation Capital's Young Entrepreneur Program.
Nate is charged with scouting Georgia Tech's labs and the Atlanta technology community for promising technologies and projects for Foundation investments. He joins Heather Yi, TI:GER MBA 2012, as a member of this prestigious group.
TI:GER Kicks Off its 12th Class


After a trip to Berry College for the annual Ropes Challenge, the first year TI:GER teams are closer than ever! This annual team-building event is always a favorite and a great bonding experience for the newly-formed teams.  The seven teams cover a broad range, including chemistry, computer science, electrical and computer engineering, mechanical engineering, and biomedical engineering.

TI:GER has significantly increased the program’s presence in social media. We have 240+ alumni in our Linked-in group as well as 50+ mentors and other volunteers associated with the program. Fourth Annual Alumni Reunion

TI:GER alums, faculty and in dustry advisors mixed and mingled at our fourth annual reunion this past August. Over 70 folks gathered to catch up on new jobs and families, followed by an after party at Ray’s New York Pizza. We can’t wait to see an even larger crowd next year!
Alumnus Competes Internationally
Jordan Scott (MBA 2009) has been selected as a finalist for the Entrepreneur Awards 2012 Japan. The next phase is a 4 minute pitch followed by Q & A. Good luck, Jordan!

TI:GER Teams Compete with GT’s Technolgy Ventures Class at Fourth Pitch-off

11/28 4:30  – 7:00 – Mark your calendars now!

After a clean sweep of the DAWGS from UGA last year they are taking a year off to prepare for next year! So this year TI:GER teams will compete with the Georgia Technology Ventures class taught by Dr. David Ku. Each team will present their story with a 3-minute fast pitch using just 3 slides!  Cash prizes up to $1000 will be awarded by and local investor Jerry Recht. Sentrinsic Releases New Products

Sentrinsic Sentrinsic (Dave Beck MBA 2006) recently released two new industrial efficiency products for the pump market. DryStop detects when pumps run dry and shuts them off saving thousands a year in energy costs and maintenance efforts. LinePurge clears production lines of product that they normally throw away.

AccelerEyes is First Partner to Support Intel Xeon Phi


AccelerEyes , led by John Melonakos ( PhD 2008) is continuing on its profitable growth path, and celebrated its 5th anniversary by expanding its business to work with the new Intel Xeon Phi chip.  This new chip is expected to compete strongly in the high-performance computing market, disrupting the NVIDIA GPUs which have started to take hold over the last 5 years. Syzygy Secures Patent


Syzygy Memory Plastics led by Walter Voit (PhD 2009) and Brent Duncan (MBA 2009) was issued a patent for “Shape memory polymers and process for preparing" in the United States and has filed it in Europe, Canada, Japan, Korea, and Australia. Their employee count is now up to nine and they were recently award two additional NSF grants!

DiagNano on the FastTrac

DiagNano Logo

DiagNano, formed by Brad Kairdolf (PhD 2008) and Kristina Crockett (MBA 2008), was accepted to the Kaufmann FastTrac  TechVenture business program for technology and life sciences entrepreneurs held this fall at Emory University. 

Breakout Labs Funds General Genomics $350K

General Genomics co-founded by James Kratzner (PhD 2011) and his advisor Eric Gaucher, Associate Professor in the Biology Department at Georgia Tech was awarded a $350K grant from Breakout Labs to continue developing their gout therapeutic. 

Breakout Labs which is part of the Peter Thiel's Foundation is reshaping the way early-stage science is funded by providing support for young companies to advance their most radical ideas.

AlpZhi Receives More Funding


AlpZhi founded by Amit Jarawala (PhD 2010) received the Phase-IIB GRA Venture Lab Award for $50K in August, raising their total funding since inception to $320K.

They are developing a functional prototype, which will help them gain co-development contracts in the fields of imaging and display devices.
