Abstract
This paper examines "what we know" about internationalising the entrepreneurial firm. More specifically, the literature pertaining to the Stage Models of internationalization, Foreign Direct Investment Thoery, and the Network Approach to internationalisation is reviewed and critiqued, in the context of small entrepreneurial firms. This review finds that our knowledge of this ares is limited, and we lack an emprically-based theoretical framework to explain how entrepreneurial firms internationalise their operations and pursue international market development. Implications are drawn for future research in this area.
