Evolution of a Department

by Dr. Heidi M. Rockwood

Abstract

The Department of Modern Languages at the Georgia Institute of Technology evolved over the last seven years from a minor service department into a respected player in the academic community. The common goals developed for the department which led to this change, such as teaching for proficiency and for the engineering student, publications in language pedagogy, special intensive programs and the use of video-interactive teaching modules are being discussed with a view to the implications for the educational community in general.
